Pro-Line Front and Rear Body Mounts (Slash 4×4) Review

This is a mini review of the Pro-Line extended body mount kit for the Slash 4×4 (6087-00). It basically replaces the stock body mount system, but with adjustability and a new screw-on button mounting method that eliminates body clips.

From their site:

It includes adjustable body mounts so you can fit any body on your truck, including Rally car bodies! Instead of just using the same old flimsy body clips that always get lost and bent up, the Pro-Line kit includes a revolutionary screw on body mounting system. No more getting stabbed in the finger by those nasty clips! Just screw down the included setscrew into the body mount, place the O-Ring over the setscrew and mount your body as you normally would, but with the added safety, security and styling of Pro-Line’s innovative screw on body mounting system!

Sounds like a decent improvement. For $12 it’s worth a shot right?

Here is how the new body mounts come packaged. Nothing too fancy but it shows you what you’re getting.

The front stock body mount.

body mount before 4

The rear stock body mount.

Time to remove both!

body mount after1

Here you start by removing the old and replacing with the new. The new Pro-Line mounts bolt on exactly as the stock ones do.

body mount before2

Remove the rear stock body mount just like you did for the front.

Here we thread a long set screw into the new Proline post. Make sure to leave enough thread showing for the thumb screw that secures the body on.

Now slide the two longer of the four body posts in the the front body mount. Set the desired height you want the body, secure with screw, and you are done with the front! I used the long ones up front because with my particular suspension setup (not shown in these photos) the longer mounts would hit the rear shocks. On a regular Traxxas Slash 4×4, the long mounts would go in the rear and be able to reach the height you’d need to run a rally car body (higher roof).

Do the same for the rear but just use the shorter posts.

body post1

No more body clips! The body secures using the included thumb screws. Don’t lose these, they will be a little harder to replace than a body clip (I bought extras just in case).

Same deal in the rear. Thread on your thumb screws and you are done!

So what do I think of these?

Well I got to try them for the 1st time at the 2013 Pro Series race held at CRC Raceway in Rome NY and they held up great. They held their shape (unlike the stock ones that eventually twist at odd angles – see above).

The plastic is pretty flexible but once everything is mounted they gain some rigidity but still allow the post to flex in a crash.

The thumb screws hold the body on great. This is the best feature of the new mounts, well that and you can adjust the height of the body.

With all the good things said there are a couple of things that I didn’t like. One thing I noticed is after installing the new mounts I found that they don’t line up too well with the holes left in the body from the stock mounts (this could have been from mine being all twisted and changing bodies). I didn’t mind this too much as I was getting a new body anyhow, so keep this in mind.

The second drawback is if you happen to misplace one of the thumb screws you are kind of out of luck. Its not like a body pin that everyone at the track has.

The added benefits outweigh the bad though. If you race or even bash being able to raise or lower the body is a huge plus. That’s something you couldn’t do with the stock mounts. Also we have all had the dreaded body clip rip through our bodies and ruining an otherwise perfect body. These thumb screws cover a larger surface area and the hole needed for the set screws is easily twice as small as the stock body mount hole. This should cut down on cracks and pull throughs on the body mounting areas.

I like them and would recommend them to fellow rc’ers. I would buy extra thumb screws just in case. If you are like me, you are bound to lose one.
