Jobo JIB 4 Review

This review comes to us from our friend “Racetrack” Kristiansen from Norway. He wanted you guys to know about this little camera from Jobo.

Jobo JIB 4 Review

Jobo JIB 4 is a fairly cheap, but well equipped action camera. It has a built-in 1.5” TFT display on the backside and lots of different mounts for use on different surfaces and angles.

It comes with a case, making it waterproof down to 60m, about 196ft. The downside to this case is that the sound gets a bit congested. Because of this you might want to use the camera without its case if the conditions let you.

On the backside the camera has a removable control unit, where all the settings are done. This unit is also where the display is. When all settings are done the control unit can be removed and replaced with an additional battery that comes with the camera. The additional battery is good for about 2 hours longer up time. The waterproof case has room for the camera with the control unit or the extra battery.

The wide angle can be set from 120 to 170. It can record in 1080i/30fps. With lower resolution it is possible to record with 100-120fps, for slow motion.

In Use

The camera is a breeze to use. Settings is easily done. The display is nice. It is never fun getting home from a film session just to discover there was something just in front of the lens.

Inside the coloring is pretty good. Red is red and white is white. When used outside there is a hint of too much red on things that are red-ish. It’s not that bad, makes the pictures a little fancy although in a non natural way.

When it starts to get dark, the camera works very well. It doesn’t lose details like many action cameras tend to do. While making an onboard video reveals that the camera likes it. While it doesn’t have any form of anti-shake it does on-board well.

The sound is ok, a bit on the low side with some background noise. I find this camera to be best used as an on-board camera. If there is a need to use the casing, the sound gets very low with it on.  This is not a bad camera by any means, with the price in consideration this camera scores very well.

Now for some scores!

Value 9With price in consideration its hard to beat. Comes with a lot of extra mounts, extra battery etc.
Build Quality 8-5It feels well built. The material is about the same as the other higher end action cams out there.
Performance 8Picture quality is above average, but not as good as the best action cams.
Durability 7-5It has been put through its paces, with no issues, except a scratch in front of the lens casing.
Would I buy again? If I needed an action cam and I couldn’t afford the more expensive ones, this is what I would get. No doubt.

8-5For the price, it’s just a sweet deal. If you are in Europe score it another point or so higher. Compared to GoPro Silver edition it is about half the price here in Europe. At the time of this review, the price for either camera is about the same in US.

This little movie is filmed purely with the Jobo mounted on a Traxxas Summit.
