JConcepts Fall Indoor Nationals @ RC Excitement Recap

So the track is hard packed clay. Very hard packed. It had medium to high bite and grip picked up over the weekend as more and more people ran on it. On Sunday they were sweeping the fine dust off the top every heat to give everyone an even track surface. They ran an excellent show and the announcers ran a tight ship. With this many entries there was no way they could wait for anyone who didn’t make it out to the track on time. I think they did an excellent job at running the races and got everyone out of there at a decent time every night.

The lanes are a little tight for the bigger classes like 1/8 E-Buggy but the drivers did their best to keep it clean and make the best of the room they had. I didn’t see a lot of blatant take-outs and when someone did, they usually gave the courtesy wait to give the position back. Good sportsmanship and calm attitudes are what make a great race. There were a few individuals who got loud and sometimes threw a fit, but they seemed fewer and far between. It’s good to see so many people maintain a professional composure in such an electric atmosphere. For those that can’t, well.. feel free to stay home next time.. we won’t miss you.

Painted on logos always make the track a little cooler.

Here’s a few videos that will give you an idea of the track layout, and the different lines guys were running:

The astro turf in the infield really gives the track some definition and helps distinguish the racing surface.

A shot of the drivers stand. It’s plenty tall enough to see the whole track. I prefer double ended drivers stands (with both on and off stairs) but at least the stairs here are wide enough to let folks walk down while others walk up. This saves valuable time between heats when people can move on and off the stand efficiently.

A cool X-Factory 2wd buggy on the track. My camera is far too crappy to get quality action shots. Someday we’ll have a big enough budget to get a quality DSLR so I can grab some good action shots for you readers. For now this is the best I can do to share the race experience with you.

RC Excitement has a cool viewing area under the drivers stand that allows racers to watch the action.

Plenty of spectators all the time during this race. Either they wanted to see the lines others were driving, or perhaps they were just bored with the long wait between their heats.

Next are some random shots throughout the pits. Maybe you will spot someone you know.
