Review: The MIP Pucks™, 17.5 Drive System installed in a Team Associated SC10 Dirt Modified.

Let me begin by mentioning that this system is a lot lighter than any system I have tried in the past. You get the benefits of a ball diff and the super light weight drive system.

Everything you need comes in one complete package, no more buying a few parts here or there. It comes all together.

Assembly is a piece of cake as everything you need is included, even the grease. One thing you will notice is  the smoother acceleration of  this MIP Pucks™, 17.5 Drive System and the Pucks help make that happen. These Pucks fit around the ends of the drives and slide perfectly in the outdrives of the ball diff. You get zero slop which adds to smoother acceleration. Gone is the extra jerk in the drive train because you are not getting a backlash from the slop in the standard drives. Another great thing about the Pucks is  they are replaceable  and this helps save the outdrives from wearing due to the previously mentioned backlash. The reason I believe these are an excellent choice for dirt oval is the lack of backlash. Backlash adds a jolt to the dogbones or CVD’s. This can break the rear tires loose a little on a loose dirt track. This Pucks System will reduce that from happening.

As you can see in the above photo. The pucks mount on a shaft and get secured onto it by a Allen screw on both sides.

The CVD’s mounted easily in the hubs like most CVD’s and the ball diff includes ceramic bearings for better wear. This also helps on motor temps too by having less rotating mass weight.

The Ball diff mounts into the transmission like any other ball diff would. As you can see the outdrives are a little larger for the pucks to fit snug in place.

A lot of the weight you save is from the aluminum CVD’s. These are light weight and machined to have a very professional look and fit, right down to the etched MIP logo on them. Like the CVD’s, the diff is made out of  aluminum. The weight you save over a standard gear diff set up is pretty significant. As well as the weight saved over the standard factory ball diff too.

One of the benefits you can get from this system is less rotating weight and this is a huge deal in 17.5 spec racing. If you also get the light weight top shaft that MIP offers in addition to this system, you have reduced your rotating weight in the drive train and less resistance equals more speed. MIP has a variety of the Puck™ Drive Systems to fit different RC vehicles. If you are looking for that little bit of edge in a lightweight transmission/diff set up, check out the MIP Pucks System. It’s made in the U.S.A. too.DSCF0788

I am sure someone will ask who did the body and lettering job.  Here is the link if interested
