Handling

Matt – (3) Handling was ok. Didn’t turn very well, had a tendency to push
Kevin – (3) Stock tires are not the greatest, felt very loose and squirrely. Hard to make turns on throttle. But with a gentle trigger finger, it gets easier to drive.
Jarodd – (3) Darty, high center of gravity
Jim – (3) Truck was loose on our track surface. stock tires did not grip well. Required easy throttle use to prevent fish tails and spin outs
Average Score: 3

Jumping Ability

Matt – (2) Landings sounded hard. Not that the truck was bottoming out, more like the suspension was too stiff
Kevin – (3) Felt like a flying brick. quite heavy but didn’t bottom out at all. A little bouncy
Jarodd – (3) Flew level
Jim – (3) This truck is the heaviest of the five, and landed jumps accordingly. With a thud.
Average Score: 2.75

Speed

Matt – (4) top speed was right up there with the others. Only the Blitz beat it on the long straight.
Kevin – (3) Slower than I am used to but it did pretty good on the long straight
Jarodd – (4) Slow corner speed, good straight speed
Jim – (4) on the straight away, it was fairly fast as long as you kept it straight. Corner entry/exit speed was slow due to low traction. Upgrade to better tires would help.
Average Score:
3.75

Wrenchability

Matt – (4) the Slash is very easy to work on. Plenty of space between everything
Kevin – (3) nothing out of the ordinary here. Pretty easy to work on
Jarrod – (3) Servo looks difficult to change
Jim – (4) My experience with the Slash is that it is easy to wrench, which isn’t often
Average Score:
3.5

Durability

Matt – (5) The Slash is an absolute tank
Kevin – (5) Nothing broke. From my previous experience with the Slash I know it is a very durable truck
Jarodd – (2) Plastic dog bones look weak
Jim – (5) Truck is tough as nails
Average Score: 4.25

Notes

Matt – the stock Slash tires are horrible. an upgrade will go a long way in improving this trucks traction and handling
Jim – I really love this truck. The higher center of gravity makes it a tad bit more top heavy. The high score in durability is a big plus, these trucks can take a lot of abuse.

not a bad write up. i dont agree with everything nor do i disagree with everything. come on…. the slash beat the blitz ??? 😉

  2. Richard Decker says:

I agree with you George, I had to remind HSG that a Blitz won the 100 lap indoor LOSI race this past winter…LOL, all kidding aside, a very good article, very detailed and insightful.

  3. Hispeedguy says:

Well, to be fair, I think the servo in the Blitz was getting ready to give up, so the steering was pretty slow and sluggish. I ran the that same RTR Blitz on the carpet at Buddy Boys and CRC last winter in stock form and w/ a 17.5 Novak BL system and Savox 1258 servo. I couldn’t get it to turn very good then either 🙂
Fun factor was very high on all 5 though.

  4. Matt says:

It was a total blast doing the test. Testing different vehicles is always subjective. We were basing our opinions on how those particular trucks performed. If my SC10 were the one we tested with it would have been a very different story.

This is a very good write up of these vehicles for someone new entering this hobby or anyone wanting to buy another rc car. If you guys need help when you do the 4wd I would love to participate. I think it is awesome that you guys did this. I am not the best but I have been in this sport racing for 18yrs. Again keep up the good work this is very useful information. JR
