Motorama – Day 1 Practice wrap up

Today was a pure practice day at Motorama. However, your practice time did count for something. More on that in a second. They ran 3 heats of practice today, with each driver having an assigned heat to run in. There were a total of 712 entrants when you combine the 1/8 and 1/10 track. A very good turnout when you consider the fact that they dropped the Nitro classes for this year.

They ran the stock short course, 2wd mod short course, 4 wheel drive short course, and all 1/8th classes on the big 1/18 track. Thankfully, they shortened up the track for the 1/10th scale stuff.

There were a total of 35 heats in each of the 3 rounds on the big track. All races were 5 minutes each, with the infamous Scotty Ernst calling the show from the immensely huge drivers stand.

They will be seeding the qualifying rounds by how you did in practice. They are taking the fastest 3 consecutive laps you ran in practice and using that info to seat you with others approximately your speed.

Overall the RC Soup trucks performed well, with one minor break on Kevin’s SC10. But it was quickly repaired with plenty of time to spare.

We took a walk around the massive complex, to get a feel where some of the other attractions were located, and we came across this bad boy.

No, you’re eyes arent deceiving you. that is a Ford Aerostar with a small lift kit.

Stay Tuned for tomorrow’s update, as the show kicks off bright and early with a drover’s meeting at 7:15AM.
