Trick Parts Stainless Steel Screw Kit Install/Review for SC10

We received this kit from Trick Parts for review and installation. They offer several Stainless Steel screw kits for various vehicles. This one in particular is for the Team Associated SC10 2wd Short Course Truck.

Why upgrade to stainless steel screws you ask? Well, they won’t rust or corrode like regular steel screws included in most kits. They are also less prone to bending/breaking or stripping the heads out. And, they are shiny and give your truck that sweet “bling” you know you want.

This stainless steel screw kit comes with every size screw required (excluding any specialty screws) to change from those heavy rusty steel screws to a durable stainless steel screw with a nice finish that will last a lifetime. They also include extras.

My first impression when I received the kit was that there seemed to be a ton of screws in the box (the box is optional on their website, it seems worth the extra cost though, as you can always keep spares in there). Everything was divided into little compartments and well organized.

Installation is fairly straight forward.. Remove your old rusted screw, and replace it with the same size stainless screw. Rather than do a complete teardown and get screws confused, I installed this kit 1 screw at a time. I compared the new screw to the old to ensure the size was correct.

Here’s my truck before the screw install. It’s stripped down in preparation for Motorama 2012 in a few weeks.

Now we’ll go into some AFTER shots with the screws installed.

Lastly, a video summary.

Overall the install went very well. The only issue I had was some of the screws on the bottom of the chassis were caked with dirt. I used a hobby knife to scratch the dirt out a little and then gave it a shot of compressed air. It worked well to get the dirt out and be able to get a wrench in there without stripping the screw.

Everything else was pretty straight forward. We’re just swapping out screws here.

Value The screw kit costs around $28. A little pricey if you go in with the mindset of “it’s just screws”. Factor in that they wont rust or need replacing like kit screws, then you’ll see this is a pretty good value overall.
Appearance This is part of what this kit is about.. LOOKING GOOD! They shine and stand out on the truck, giving it real flair.
Performance They hold the truck together like any other screw. Doesn’t really effect performance.
Durability Haven’t run them yet, but having had stainless screws years ago.. they should hold up just fine. If anything happens though, they’re covered by Trick Parts’ Lifetime Warranty.
Would I buy again? Probably. It is a good upgrade, especially if your current screws are showing corrosion.

Overall I give the Trick Parts Stainless Steel Screw kit a 4.5 out of 5

Improved durability, improved appearance, no rust, and under $30. This is a smart upgrade. Might not be the first thing I do to a vehicle, but after things like shocks, bearings, cvd’s, etc.. it’s a no brainer.

Now Updated! This kit now includes screws for use with the RPM front bumper for the SC10!
