Team RCE Slash 4×4 LCG Carbon Fiber Conversion

First we need to remove the old bellcrank posts/bulkhead/chassis brace from the front end. We must remove the screws and washers holding the bellcrank to the bulkhead.

Then remove all the lower screws in the bulkhead.

This includes the screws on top holding the bumper in place as shown below.

Remove the hinge pin brace and hinge pins to fully remove the front bulkhead.

Much like a buggy, the Slash 4×4 has a bottom exposed diff gear casing.

The Team RCE conversion’s spacing of the bellcrank posts is a bit wider than the stock configuration. This means it requires a new center steering link that is also wider than stock. See the difference below. This will cause your toe-in to be wrong on the truck when finished, so be sure to adjust after the build is finished.

Remove the shoulder bolts from the stock center link and install the new one.

Here we add those shims previously mentioned. We need 3 on the bottom, and 3 on the top (once the bellcrank is installed). They are different thicknesses, so pay attention to the diagram).

Slide the bearing’d steering bellcranks over the posts and the diff case into it’s place.

Then slide the arms into place and reinstall the hinge pins and hingepin brace to hold it all together.

We can then install the 2 rear screws into the diff case. The 3 screws up front require the front bumper to be installed first (I left this till the end so I had one less thing hanging off the truck while working on it).

Hingepins installed.

Next we have the top plate adapter. This connects the top plate to the front diff casing on top and serves as top steering post retainer as well as half of the servo mount.

Since everything on this kit has such tight tolerances and great fit and finish, I just press fit this into place for now. I did this mainly to hold in the steering posts and hold their shims in place. I knew I’d have to remove it again to install the servo later.
