Traxxas Slash 4×4 LCG chassis Shootout!

Lap Times and Results

Time for some hard data. All of the drivers ran several laps with each truck. With any race you are going to have bad laps, and this shootout was no different. So to avoid a marshal having a say in the results, when the dust settled we took the top 5 laps for each driver in each chassis and averaged them. Here is a graphic to show how they stacked up. Fastest laps per driver are in red.

Overall, 4 out of the 5 drivers ran their fastest laps with the SSC chassis. Kevin ran his fastest with the Team RCE chassis. The Chuckworks showed an improvement over stock for Dumper and Kevin, but not for the rest of the drivers.

For some of the drivers all of the chassis are pretty close to each other. For others one sticks out as a clear winner.

We then combined all the times for each truck across all drivers, and averaged them. Here’s a break down.

Overall the SSC dropped the average lap more than the other two chassis.

Also worth noting, the SSC Chassis is the closest in lap times to the Pro’s full on race rigs, all while using stock Traxxas electronics and shocks/springs!

The Chuckworks actually gained time for several drivers. This again is likely due to possibly needing some stiffer springs.

The VIDEO!

Below is some video of each chassis being run. As you will see in several sections, that the VXL struggles to make some of the big jumps unless you have impeccable timing. This is a very small portion of the laps that were run, so keep that in mind if not all of them look clean, and remember, we took the top 5 from all for out lap times.

So who won?

I have the SSC and I LOVE it. My first observations were a lot like yours. It feels VERY stable and planted. IT has certainly converted my slash into a whole new machine. Right now, I run the Ultras with TiN coated shock shafts, Aluminum caps and RPM 2 stage pistons. It seems to work pretty well. I’m waiting on a center diff but it works like a dream even with the slipper. I can’t wait to get going with the C.diff.

I just have to install a Tenshock SC401 waiting to go into the SSC. With a Hobbywing SC8 controlling the VXL 3500 on stock gearing powered by a Gens Ace lipo, the car came off the track with the motor at 140F, lipo at 104F and ESC at around 100F in ambient temps of 95F! To me, that is spectacular. All in all, I’d suggest this chassis in a heartbeat.

You guys did some nice testing and I’m looking forward to phase 2. The SSC and TRCE (in particular) have given the slash 4×4 a new lease of life. I wonder how the Chuckworks will do with more tuning…

Great write-up!! I would like to see a shoot-out with a budget electronics setup, like a HW sc8 120a ESC with a tenshock sc401 or sc411 4000kv motor and a high end setup Tekin rx8 ESC and pro 4 4000kv motor. It would be nice to uprade the shocks to Losi, sc10 4×4 or PL powershocks

i would defenently like to see a electronic’s upgrade for the chassis and could the pro line pro track kit be included in the future tests?
