Redneck RC’s Hillbilly Hoedown Event Coverage

This past weekend was the Hillbilly Hoedown Trophy Race @ Redneck RC in Baldwinsville, NY. This is a new track around here and they put A LOT of thought and effort into making it one of the finest indoor race facilities in NY. This was the first big event for the track, which opened a few months ago. I’ve heard this will be an annual race.

The theme of the Hillbilly Hoedown was all about “Livin’ it up Redneck style”. It’s a trophy race with awards for winners, and Top Qualifiers, but at the same time, it’s also meant to be a “Just for Fun” race. They did a lot of neat things to lighten up the atmosphere. There were gag-gift door prizes like bubba teeth, rubber chickens, straw hats, you name it.. There was also a costume contest for dressing up as the biggest Hillbilly. They had hay bales around the track at Marshall stations. The Redneck trophy girl was cow girl’d up and carried around a live chicken. Redneck even rigged up a light show and speakers for some music during the day here and there.. Light show while the track was being prepped before the mains, etc.

It was definitely an awesome time. They had about 140 entries between all classes, which were:4WD Open Short Course
2WD Open Short Course
4WD Open Buggy
2WD Open Buggy
Open Stadium Truck
Open Beginners Class
Ladies Class (I think this was combined with the Beginners due to low turnout, there’s usually more lady racers in the house)

The track is indoor clay off-road. It’s very nicely groomed and the layout is fun. If you haven’t made it out to see the facility, maybe the following race coverage photos will inspire a trip. It’s worth it even if you have to travel a bit (for us it’s about 1.5 hrs).

Anyways, onto some pics.

Here is the group shot of the entries on the front stretch.

If there was one picture that would sum up the whole concept of this race, this buggy might be it. Awesome!

It must be a big event, even Soup supporter Dougie Smith made the trip out to race on some clay.

Not everyone dressed up but the ones that did, did a pretty good job.
