Team New Wave Dual Output 7200mah 2S Lipo Hands-on

We spotted this pack recently in our trip to the Short Course Nationals, and it turns out RCSoup Contributor Tony has been using this pack a while. He’s here to give his thoughts on it today.

With RC battery technology changing rapidly and several companies competing to be at the front of the pack, this innovative new Lipo Battery from Team New Wave, gives you a wide range of flexibility. Anything from Dual Motor and ESC Pro Mod Monster Trucks to 1/8th scale offroad and everything in between.  This battery comes standard with dual banana style outputs and a balancer wired to a Deans Connector, which is more than adequate to handle the high amp draw from some of the high power short course setups being run today.  This battery is a common 2s or 2 cell Lipo or also known as 7.4 volts which is the most widely used battery in most racing classes but can also be used for extremely long run time in a crawler or scaler.  The dual ports are great for 4wd sc and offer the advantages of spreading the amp draw across 2 poles, resulting in more contact, less arcing, and a generally better connection that results in less failures for that power demanding class. No more melted top ports!

Here the battery is pictured without the plugs installed, just like it looks when you take it out of the box. As you can see the battery just looks spectacular with the faux Carbon Fiber hard case and would look right at home inside a carbon fiber chassis of any kind!

Team New Wave designed this battery to be a great well-rounded battery and with 7200mah (which equates to how much run time a battery provides) the battery is capable of running a Dual Brushless ESC and Motor Pro Mod Monster Truck for a full day of  competitive racing without needing to be recharged or topped off.  In this kind of racing I have found this battery to provide a full day and racing without dipping below half charge!  If you were using this battery in a Crawler or Scaler truck you could expect to get several hours of play time on a single charge.  As far as how much actual POWER does this battery have it is measured in the “C” rating system and is rated at 75C which is also more than enough to power just about any ESC and motor combo you could want, even with high torque steering servos or a Dual Motor Setup.

Pictured here the Team New Wave Lipo is outfitted with Dual Deans connectors and is setup to power a Pro Mod Monster Truck with Twin Tekin Gen2 RS Speed Controls and twin Tekin Gen2 10.5 Brushless Motors.

The battery is very appealing to the eye and extremely durable with its Hard Case material to protect the battery in the event of a brutal crash.  One of the best features of this battery is the ability to run 2 separate Deans Plugs out of each output allowing you to run dual speed controls without the need to run a homemade “Y” harness to connect each speed control to one battery (Like Kevin had to make for the ZRP Diablo build he ran at iHobby). This allows each speed control to be plugged into its own output and cuts down on the nest of wires underneath your body. This should prove to be very popular with the Monster Truck crowd and any RC Hobbyist looking for a great battery with lots of power and runtime.  Look no further than the Team New Wave 7200mah Dual Output High Performance 2S Lipo!  This battery was designed by Chris Marcy owner of Team New Wave Cells and RC Madness in Enfield, Connecticut it is available exclusively at his Hobby Shop, or online at www.rcmadness.com.
