Tamiya CR-01 Land Cruiser Build Up

The CR01’s shocks are completely plastic bodied. They don’t seem to be the most high tech shock on the market, but they should serve their purpose.

Two o-rings go inside the bottom of the shock body and the lower seal is then installed.

Next we install E-Clips on the shock shaft and then install the shock pistons, followed by a 2nd E-Clip.

The shaft then gets inserted (Gently so you don’t tear the O-rings with the threads on the shaft) into the shock body. Grip the shaft with a pair of pliers (with a piece of cloth so you don’t mar the shaft), and then install the lower shock end.

Once that’s done fill the shock and move the shaft up and down to release all the air bubbles. This process is called bleeding. Install the red shock bladder and then the cap, and we’re done.

Below are the spring retainers. The spring holders we installed earlier have grooves that the spring slides into, and these are what hold the spring into those grooves.

Spring is shown installed into the spring holders.

Now we install the spring retainers to lock them in place. They aren’t going anywhere.

Here’s the front springs installed.

Next we install the shocks and cantilever linkage that connect them to the axles. Unlike a traditional shock setup, this cantilever unit keeps the shock compressed at a resting stance.

When the suspension is compressed, the shock actually extends. Very neat.

Awesome build, so detailed I could follow it instead of the instructions!;) I love these trucks and can’t wait to see how it turns out.
