Tamiya Mitsubishi Montero Wheelie Build Up

After attending the 2011 Big Bird Pull, I was on the lookout to build a puller of our own for RC Soup. The 2wd Box Stock class uses any 2wd truck with a stock motor and 6 cell battery. The class is an entry level class as far as pulling goes, there’s not much you have to do other than install a hitch. Most guys were running a Tamiya Lunchbox or Midnight Pumpkin in this class.

The Midnight Pumpkin is discontinued, except for the limited Chrome Edition. I browsed the Tamiya website and stumbled upon this new release. It’s based on the same chassis as the Lunchbox and Midnight Pumpkin, but it has a Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero body. I believe this body was originally on a different chassis and called the Pajero back in the 80’s. It was different from anything I saw at the pull that day, so I decided to go for it over the other 2 models. I bought it from our local hobbyshop, Buddyboys RC.

The Mitsubishi Montero Wheelie is a 1/12 scale rear wheel drive truck. It has a highly detailed ABS plastic body with rollbar, lights, spare tire, gas can, and more. It comes with a silver can 540 motor, and an electronic speed control. All you need to get it running really is a radio and a cheap servo.
