Project Puller: Converting a RJ Speed Digger

Some people will likely roll their eyes at this next part, but I opted to install Duratrax Power Pole connectors (also known as Sermos). I used these years ago. I now prefer Traxxas, but these have a unique ability to pull the ends apart and allow you to reconfigure them (like plug a negative into a positive). That’s something I liked because I can jump the packs together in series and make a 6 cell pack. I could also just use the 4 cell pack if the need ever arose.

First you install one of the silver prong-like ends…

Then the plastic end just snaps over it.

This is what the pack all wired up looks like.

To hold the little 2 cell in place, I built a small tray out of sheet lexan.

Simply placed it over the chassis and marked the cut/fold lines with a Sharpie.

Finished! All I did to hold it in was use servo tape. I will likely end up using velcro to secure the pack to the tray to keep it from shifting around.

For an ESC I managed to locate an old used Novak Cyclone, which was the top of the line esc in it’s time.

That’s all I have for this project at this time. I cannot wait to see what this thing has this weekend and how it will stack up against the competition. Hopefully you enjoyed following along. Keep an eye out for the results from this weekend. Thanks to all of the people who helped make this project possible!

So where are you guys attaching the sled to the diggers? I pull and think this would be an awesome cheap class to start. I have prob 4 of these chassis already. Thanks

We just use the wheelie bar. I still need to cut out the spot in the body for access though.

Are there other wheels and tires there using like a tlt wheel and tire? Sorry for all the questions but I think this would be a good class to add to ours . Just doing some homework before I suggest us adding this class.
