Tamiya CC-01 Mercedes-Benz Unimog Build Up

Voila! A pretty much completed rolling chassis. All the drive train is installed.. now for the easy stuff.

Another shot of the bottom with all drive train installed.

Another one of the biggest gripes I read about were the stock tires. They’re hard. Like the tires on the Big Wheel you wish you still fit on. Maybe I’m exaggerating.. maybe not? Either way, I decided I was not going to run them from the get go. I opted for RC4WD 1.9″ Trail Busters. These tires are a bit taller than the stockers, but about the same width. Being this is a Unimog and I didn’t have a body to worry about clearing and the CC-01 having dismal suspension travel, I gave them a shot. They are also a nice soft, sticky compound. Should work well on the trails.

Size comparison, side to side.

Like I said, about the same width. Being a tall & narrow tire, the Trail Busters really fit the unimog nicely.

I opted to run the stock wheels, which are black 1.9’s. Believe these are the same ones that used to ship on the Tamiya Hummer.

All mounted up. Not much clearance between the tire and the wheel well. Good thing this truck doesn’t have a whole lot of flex I suppose.

Front shot. Man what a stance… Daddy likey.

The rear DOES get SOME flex.. This is like 2″ I think.
