Tamiya CC-01 Mercedes-Benz Unimog Build Up

Another Tamiya build! I really can’t say enough about how much I love a Tamiya build. Having been into plastic models as a teenager, I really love building kits. It brings back fond memories. If you’re going to build a kit, you might as well go with one by one of the best kit manufacturers out there, Tamiya.

This is the Tamiya CC-01 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 406. It is based off of the original XC chassis (Pajero Metal Top Wide, Jeep Wrangler, Isuzu MU, etc). The CC-01 is 1/10 scale (on the small side though) and features shaft driven 4wd. It has independent front suspension, with a solid rear axle. It’s also got a massive tub chassis that adds realism with detailed frame rails and actual wheel wells. This kit also comes in Land Cruiser (recently discontinued), Jeep Wrangler (recently rereleased) & Ford Bronco flavors. I’ve ALWAYS loved the Unimog in real life, so this was an EASY choice for me.

Some of the coolest features about this kit? It comes with LED lights and a controller for them (Tamiya TLU-01 $50 alone) as well as an ESC w/ reverse (Tamiya TEU-104BK $40 alone). That’s $90 of value right there.. add in the $44 it costs for a body alone, and it’s like you’re paying $50 for the truck itself (street price is around $180 for this kit). Really the only thing you need to add is a servo, radio system, and battery.

Enough with the small talk.. I’m sure you want to see some pics! Continue through the pages to dive into the kit build with me.
