Tamiya CC-01 Mercedes-Benz Unimog Build Up

Let the Bodies hit the floor! Or.. in this case.. the Paint Booth. I’m terrible at getting pics when my handy are messy must be..  Here it is clear and untrimmed.

…and using a little cooking-show magic, it’s done! I went with Competition Orange from Pactra. I tried every local hobby shop within 50 miles to see if they had Tamiya orange (love Tamiya paint), but apparently due to manufacturing or labeling issues, Tamiya paint was impossible to get at the time of this build. I masked off the fenders and front bumper to paint them black. The body is actually 3 pieces. The main part you see below, and then a lower frame part that has gas tank details and helps skirt the side of the tub chassis.

Body with decals applied. Window trim, door handle, marker lights, etc are all on the decal sheet. You can also see the LED controller and an adapter that runs in-line with the battery to power the LEDs.

Close up shot of the LED controller. A lot of empty slots left to power additional LEDs.

These are the grille parts and LED mounts/housings.

Rear LED housing. Be sure to leave the LED areas clear on the body to light can show through.

Rear LED mounts.

Another shot of the rear LED mount. The part closest to the body attaches with servo tape, and then you install the LED and lock it in with the bracket.

Side skirts mentioned above are attached with a combination of servo tape and screws.

Front LED mounts are similar to the rear except they anchor to a plastic grille insert.

Grille insert from the front. Also notice the wiper decals. Tamiya does not shy away from detail in their kits.

Fully rigged up body. LED controller is servo taped to the underside. Small aluminum wire guides hold everything in place. Notice I replaced the Tamiya in-line harness with a Deans micro plug.

On the ESC side, I wired in the other micro plug to hook up the LED controller. I went with a regular sized Deans plug for the battery end.

All the electronics are now installed. The stock ESC has no Lipo cutoff, so I am running a cheap Ebay Lipo Alarm.
