Caster Racing EX1.5R Buggy – Build

Ah – Did you spy that through that last picture?? Yessiree folks, we are going to power this beast with a Tekin system. The RX8 ESC and the T8 motor to be exact. We went with the 1900 kv motor. It will be run on 4S, and given the size of the local track, 1900 kv is plenty fast enough. First up we screw the motor to the motor mount and throw on a pinion. The EX1.5R uses a mod 1 spur. The kit included an 11T pinion, but that isn’t enough. We started with a 13T pinion just to get her running.

Soldering the three wires onto the motor was fun (I hate soldering). We also mounted the ESC with some servo tape.

Remember how much I love soldering? Well there was a ton to do on this Tekin system. There are 3 on the motor, 5 on the ESC

This should get a chuckle out of some of you. Because we are using 2 2S batteries in series, we had to construct a custom series connector. I needed a third and fourth hand, so I came up with a clever use of my AJS Machine stand

Here’s the completed “custom” connector
