Pemberton Raceworks SJ-10 Chief Build Up

Now we install the wheels and finish up. We install the flanged bearings into the front wheels and mount them up.

This is also the point where I installed my receiver.

Long sensor wire in the back looks stupid does it not? haha.

One issue I encountered when trying to mount my ORT truck body was the front bumper hung out too far to allow me to move the body back enough. See below. The wheelbase is at least 1/2″ off.

To help fix this, I drilled new holes in the bumper about .4″ forward to allow me to move the bumper back and therefore the body. It’s still off a little bit, but not as much. When you trim the body, beware where your tire is, because mine still did not quite match where the lines in the body are. Trim carefully and you don’t have to follow the molded body line.

Here she is all ready to go at Walt’s Hobby on a practice day. I installed the servo horn and steering links at the track and made all other (camber, etc) adjustments there.

Here it is with the body on next to fellow Team Soup / Canalside Racing driver Jarodd Goedel’s CRC Gen X10LE Oval Conversion (the orange one is his).

Overall, I am happy with the way the build turned out. I struggled a little without instructions, and hopefully this will help someone in my shoes who has little experience with these cars. I had issues breaking the ball studs, but only because I manhandled them like a brutish ape. Realize that they are aluminum and delicate and you will be fine. I also had two missing ball cups but they were easy to find substitutes for. Had I sent Steve Pemberton an email, he would have shipped me some the next day I’m sure. The PRW crew is very nice, and they are extremely busy racing and putting together kits for orders. They are a very small operation, and realizing that, some things are bound to slip through the cracks like that. Give them an email, and they will be glad to sort it out.

That said.. it’s time to start going fast.. and turning left!
