Pemberton Raceworks SJ-10 Chief Build Up

Up next is the Bumper Bag. This has the front bumper and the nerf wing in it.

These are pretty straight forward to mount up.

Well, it’s starting to look like a car..

P1080182

Ok.. now back to that rear axle. I got ahold of some diff lube finally and was able to continue that portion of the build.

P1080108

All the parts out of the bag.

P1080110

Here are the diff balls and bearings. I like having a magnetic mat when working with these. They don’t roll away so easy.

P1080184

This gets built like a standard 1/10 pan car axle.

First we lightly lube the diff balls and insert them into the spur gear.

P1080186

We then take the carbon axle and install one of the diff rings.

P1080187 P1080188

Slide the spur gear over that. Bearing too!

P1080192

Then insert the bearings into the diff hub and slip the other diff ring onto that.

P1080193 P1080194

Carefully slide that assembly onto the axle while ensuring the diff ring does not move out of it’s keyed notch.

P1080195

Next insert another bearing and then diff spacer. The lip on the diff spacer should face the bearing when installed.

P1080196 P1080198

When assembled it should look like this.

P1080199

Now we insert the conical spring washer. The cone should face away from the gear and the flat part should rest against the diff spacer shown above.

P1080200 P1080201

Next we install the diff nut and tighten it so that the assembly stays together. Adjustment will be done later.

P1080202

Now that the diff is built, let’s install the axle.

P1080203

First we have to pick the slugs that go in the pod. These adjust the ride height of the axle, and which ones you use will depend on your tire diameter. With 2.12 tires, I opted to start with the 1.75 slug size with bearing hole facing up. Insert the slugs, and then the bearings as shown.

P1080204 P1080205 P1080206 P1080207 P1080209

Now slide the axle through.

P1080211

PRW gives you this big spacer for easy width placement of the left hand hub. Insert it over the axle with the small side towards the bearing.

P1080212

Now we install the left hand hub and tighten it where there is minimal back and forth shucking of the axle.

P1080213

Rear axle is now installed.

P1080216

Looking more like a car…
